What's new this month!
Roughly in a few short hourse, the Sapphyx Launcher beta will go live and the world will cheer and shout and and and...yeah that didn't go as planned... Sapphyx Launcher beta has gone live but intentionally as it was mentioned on Google Plus earlier this week. May was a shit show for the developer side of things, let me tell you right now. It was one of those months where I asked myself, why do i do this again? But, anyways were gonna talk about a few other things while I have your attention and talk about me as June is a big month for not only bugs but as well as the guy who bugs you on a daily basis on Google Plus!
Sapphyx Luancher Beta
Sapphyx Launcher is currently in a position where I would consider it usable but unstable. It's in a position where you have the ability to look at it from a user stand point and just admire the work and time that has been invested into this launcher project. Sapphyx is a hybrid of Pixel Launcher and Sapphire Launcher. Not only does the launcher provide a native Android Nougat experience for the devices it supports but as well as a customize able environment for themers and enthusiast. The launcher is powered by Google Services which allows the user to login from the setup screen and the launcher will use that information to guide you, to communicate with you, to learn from you, to suggest to you your next steps. Well, That's the future of it anyways. Some users have described it as a flashback of the classic ADW launcher from cyanogen rom. My goal is not to compete with any of the premium launcher devs and providers but to compete with my self. To build a launcher thats built for and android user from an android user. To provide the essentials of a powerful homescreen. To make what I had initially envisioned Sapphire Launcher to be.
Currently the launcher supports customization to the homescreen grid and app drawer, launcher searchbar, folders, gestures, app icons, dock, shortcuts, general launcher settings and ofcourse the return of Sketches. Each section of customization had to either be rewritten from the ground up to adapt itself to android nougat or use a merge technique to port directly from Sapphire Launcher. Now, If a feature could of been revised or added to, I took advantage of it. Alot of users will notice that the handfull of settings currently available are available in other related launchers. That's because its general code customization. It's relatively the same and very easy to get access to from open source projects or just general knowledge. One of the newest features to hit Sapphyx Launcher that was inspired by Klinker Apps Blur Launcher and the idea from Sapphire Launcher's Extended Homescreen is Active Panels. Active Panels are a new feature of which adds an external source to the launcher and adds it to the far left screen of your launcher. This method was generated by adding a pager view to the launcher homescreen that manually adds fragments from other apps into the launcher homescreen and creates a new type of interactive homescreen to allow the user access to. Now currently, the launcher supports up to 5 but this number may increase or decrease depending on future implementation and support. These Active Panels are created with a homebrew API I cooked up that allows a seperate app to be read by Sapphyx Launcher allowing the project to grow and prosper in the future.
The Launcher Settings registry is very unique on its own. It's powered by Google of which users have responded in different ways. The negative feedback where users who use custom roms without google services cannot use the launcher where those of us who use Gooogle services are fully impressed. The launcher identifies you with your Google Plus Account, from there on, it uses that information to identify you and keep a real time record of performance values and feedback. This will allow me to constantly work in the background from improvements and provide a powerful and unique experience to users. My future vision is to build an assistant to guide you through the launcher, similar to google assistant (may even be powered by it, who knows).
Users have already taken the heat of battle and know this beta will be rough. I have placed myself in the hotseat and ready to build something impressive and innovative to the community that has supported me for several years on previous rom projects and Sapphire Launcher.
GSD Mobile Update
Past Google Play Productions
Sapphire Launcher will receive another update later in the year. This update will remove all things google related to ensure reliability to all roms. The interface will be cleaned up and feel like less of a magic show from going from one activity to the next and remove anything that just didn't take off or work correctly. The launcher will be looked over and ensured a long lasting trust of performance for all users and I will continue to update it for performance and reliability and feature development will come to a halt as Sapphyx Launcher takes over.
I just want to take the time to thank every single person who joined the Sapphyx Launcher beta. As excited as you are to continue to receive updates and share your feedback, your value to me is unlimited. To have a group of people stand out and say they want to be apart of this and help me build something new is just wonderful. It;s really something I don't have the ability to talk about with my family and friends in real time as they have no idea what I do or what im talking about and here you guys are supporting me and I am just thankful for all of you. As a reminder, All premium products that are released during the beta in relationship with Sapphyx Launcher, will be given a chance to be received free through promotional code drawings. How theses codes will be distributed and handled is unknown at this time. I will share more information when it becomes available and clearer.
Cheers to the GocalSD community and Sapphyx Launcher Community groups on Google Plus.
