Its that time of the month again...I a good way!
Currently I'm working on the Anvil Companion app i built for Halo Online players. Unfortunately, the community feedback is extremely low so I'm so glad my GSD Community is not like this. I'm building an app blindly with no feedback except the Google Play Reviews which sometimes arn't exactly the best things to work off of. The good thing about this next update for Anvil companion is I will be launching the open source repository on Github in hopes of gathering help from the community. It's been a 50 / 50 draw with this project. I enjoy working on it but at the same time, it's extremely hard to receive any type of real time feedback to help me and no support from the team behind the code i pull to parse inside the application. The gui is what im most impressed about because im using new elements and approaches I hope to use in other projects and ideas. Im hoping and I tidy everything up soon and start on my next project that will consume the rest of the year and more.
With the release of Android O preview, ive been carefully watching everyones reviews, feedback and new features now hitting Nova Launcher and apps adapting to the new changes google has introduced. It was a smack in the face with this preview release as I hadnt expected it nor was I prepared but questions followed from a few followers. With Sapphire Launcher and any of the apps I currently published get any light from Android O? The answer is no. Im watching and listening because I want to know what I main focus should be in Sapphyx Launcher. I dont want to release another title of a launcher on google play. I want it to be special, to have a reputation for a feature, to be something you'd recommend to friends, family or strangers. Currently, on my notes, I have several things I want to focus hard on in this launcher project that I think will make us stand out. Gestures, Add-Ons, and Less Cluttered Settings. Physically Less, Virtually More. My focus will not be on customization but personalization. The reason for such a delay is just because Im watching. Im watching the reactions to Action Launcher, Nova Launcher, ADW and Pixel. What do they love, what do they hate, what do they want and what don't they have are my questions. Im not setting myself to be the next top brand of launcher developer but to be the original dev. The Bionx Dev I once was. The dude to make some killer experiences and an awesome community out of scraps and used code. To turn water into wine and scrap into gold. To unlock the potential that we dont see. My goals for Sapphyx Launcher are to have downloadable content, Main user interface tweaks to the main operator, Google App integration, Firebase support, Gesture support and an unlocked Pixel experience. Right now, my experimental Alpha build supports universal gird customization, minor drawer adjustments, and thats all she wrote. I have to sit down and grab the latest build from Google of the Pixel Launcher, Rebase it to the new package, integrate icon pack support, rebuild the gradle, figure out what Android versions il be supporting and start working on what I hope to be the next big thing for GSD. I will definitely have a video documentary talking about the work invested in the launcher, the changes to come and what to expect when the time is ready.
Right now im in a situation where I wanna start finding ways to make money on android development but not drain the community wallets or be that guy to want money for everything I do. Im thinking on releasing a premium wallpaper app here in the near future and Add-Ons that I have planed for Sapphyx to qualify as paid apps (premium experience options). I feel i put alot of time and effort in my learning curves and don't get rewarded and understand I need to start building something I can provide and sell as an option to support my time from the community. something they wouldn't mind having and excited to see more of. In 2018 I want to find what Im good at and stick to it, whether its apps or maybe even merge into the game business and start building a game for Android or go into the VR business. I feel right now I havn't found where I belong as an android dev yet and hoping to find something soon I can pump out alot of and stick to it. Icon pack development is a no go...I suck at that painful process of repetition.
Speaking of repetition, Windows10 has been purged from my computer workstation. You have corrupted my bootloader for the last time. So, Im a full Ubuntu guy now and needless to say, the speed of my desktop has multiplied by 3 because of the amount of harddrive partitions removed and full support to the drivers. I adjusted some hardware values in my Bios and just generally surprised my machine had power I didn't even know it existed. Im hoping this performance boost will help with development of higher value projects and experiments.
Spring is here and my cabin fever is extraordinarily high. I have alot of projects todo outside, house renovation, yard and garden work and general fitness goals id like to achieve. Knowing this Il have to cut back on development and set aside Dev Days for myself and focus on health and appearance for the family. i hope the nice weather and blue sky's spike some god like powers for me to put out some cool stuff for you guys this year. I apologize that this ready was alittle dry, not much is going on lately and nothing new to share...or do I?
On a fatherly note, Wish my boi a 1st birthday wish this weekend. He turns into the big 1 sunday and I have no idea where the time has gone.
