GocalSD has marked a 3 year anniversary this year ever since its rollover from my initial group , Nx Industries. It was supposed to be a small geoup of people dedicated to simple projects, now its becoming something alittle more. Over the next few weeks and months, You'll be noticing some changes take affect on the Home website as well as the GSD Mobile App. The 2 will be recieveing massive updates to work on convergence and help keep the community in the loop of project updates , blogs and more. Its been some chore to keep everything up to par but this year, my goal is to make a few things automated and clean and simple to understand. GocalSD homesite will be revised with a cleaner material look and revised information and data (While probably promoting my friends and their work and a few things I follow, ahem Essential Phone) , while the GSD Mobile will be fully revised to read a new perspective of newsfeed. GSD Mobile will be a huge focus in the next few months and as always, will be open sourced. Like the original application, GSD will focus on a Newsfeed, advertisement, a mini store, campaign goals, announcements and community goals. Everything powered by the cloud and updated ota. A big step in managing an application from the side and allowing the community to. Keep tabs on me and be aware of changes.
Im focusing alot on how I want to handle future projects and the community and its feedback. Lately, I've been over working myself to meet the demands and requests to make sure I keel everyone happy amd satisfied. I want to build a strong connection between them and myself. I may not be the code monkey they expect me to be but after doing some research, experimentation and homework, I usually can meet theie demands. I realize lately that I have a wedding to plan for soon, a household family to focus on more and to make sure I stay healthy and happy rather drown at the computer screen. I need to reward myself of dev free days, weeks even and just refuel myself for a new journey and adventure. Its an adventure everyday dealing with you guys. The laughs, frustration, demands, requests, good deads, cooperation, co-development, and expressions. It all tells me what I need to improve on, what I need to stop doing, continue doing or excel in. Looking back at my older projects and new ones I want to try, I feel they need mme more before starting something new and its because of you guys and the users behind the projects.
This year, we can expect updatea for GSD Mobile, Flea, Prism Assistant, Drywall, Sapphire Launcher and well as heavy development in Sapphyx Launcher. Flea and Prism Assistant will be general maintenance and EOL as they will nonlonger require any maintenance after im done with their new updates. Drywall will be rewritten from the ground up to teach myself about cloud communication and wallpaper management. The new update will help users manage their devices wallpaper while offering them tools, colors and wallpapers provided by me to create a theme for their launcher workspace. Wallpapers will be updated ota frequently with categories and counts while having a top picks section as well. Its going to be a vast new update that will prove to be a successor and be open sourced. Sapphire Launcher will recieve its 2018 maintenance update and be given several new changes to make it successful as people still use it surprisingly. The extended homescreen will recieve the Sapphyx Launcher Dashboard limited port, the launcher settings will be rebuilt to be less glamorous as ive found it to be buggy on some devices and be simpler, some fixes for Oreo and Cosmetic fixes and I will be looking into porting over bubbles to but without any customization. Sapphire Launcher will also get the ad treatment but be treated with a toggle by purchasing the basic license to dismiss them. A huge surprise when i said the launcher was done being maintained but some code has been used in Sapphyx Launcher so as a reward, its getting a face lift. Eldewrito Companion, my Halo Online Companion app will also be getting several updates soon based on what players will see in the next game updates. I also have plabs to build my own gallery application and a few other ideas tucked away for incom.
Sapphyx Launcher is more successful than I had originally thought. The community is sky rocketing, the download count is almost 15k, license are being sold and the feedback is active. The latest beta updates have proven to be successful runs and shown me were I need to work on the most. They have also shown me were I have failed and spent to much time tinkering and screwing up where some places I nailed it. The launcher will be receiving a fully revised launcher menu system that will include the use of the overview window as we have ignored it for years. The side menu will be killed off and the launcher extended homescreen layout will also be rebuilt to be smoother for Context Pages and more user control. Over the next few weeks and months, Il be focusing on how users use the Dashboard Page, adding more cards to the Dashboard, more context pages, smoothening any wrinkles in the launcher interface, performance and icon related issues. Right now, I feel Sapphyx Launcher is now counted as a prime launcher experience but we still need to raise the user base. Once the user ase hits 500 daily and encounting, i will start a translation process for different languages. I only speqk and write english so this will be a process i will require moderation from several community members to make possible. As far as customization goes, I feel we pretty much have control over everything we could possibly customize. The new quick theme engine will be improved, different styles of homescreen and drawer GUI will be investigated and new ways to customize shortcuts and icons will also be looked into. Gestures and Sketches will also be reworked to be improved and support nee commands and revised user interface. Security will be revamped and reworked as well. With all these changes, Im also adapting a new way of handling license. Over the past few months and increase of users of which resulted in new feedback of how I handle things; Users have come forward and confessed that the license thing is confusing. They don't understand that the license will support other apps i release in the future and because I dont have any other apps to support right now is killing the idea and it being a wash of an effort of convincement. GSD Premium and GSD Onyx will become launcher exclusive unlock license keys. The gray area that i will have to tackle is the exclusive content users will gain from the difference between Onyx and Premium license. Both licenses will unlock all launcher customization, where things will seperate arw the features the Dashboard Context Page will gain and Context Pages available to users as these are seperated from the experience the launcher presents to users. Their basically another app running ontop or besides Sapphyx. Onyx users will also get experimental settings unlocked automatically and a new Onyx Exclusive comendation preference category will il stick in some user exclusive settings like your own theme for the launcher settings. Its a sketchy territory to be venturing into but i feel it will be for the best. The license will be updated sometime soon to adapt to these changes and implementations and help users get Sapphyx Launcher up and running. A handful of users will be a little dissapointed that they lose out on the deal of getting future products unlocked but i can promise those of you who stick around and follow my work, rewards will be given to you.
2 lingering questions have been asked by many. Will Sapphyx Launcher recieve Android 5 support and what can we expect for version 2.0?
Answer to question number 1:
I do not have a definite answer at this time. If I did, it would ruin the Qualcomm Optimized support ive integrated.
Answer to question number 2:
Right around the point, Sapphyx reaches Version Build 1.9sh, you will expect a droubt of updates to the launcher. It probably will be dead for a few months. Reason? I will be rebasing Sapphyx Launcher on that point the latest release code based on Oreo. Im waiting until the launcher code is fully optimized so i can go in and tear it all apart again and build us a new launcher base experience. With rebases, it takes a very long timw for me todo. I go in and get a working base on my modifications, i than reintegrate as many of the previous tweaks as possible while adding more. Reason being for a rebase. As I roll out update after update after updates. Code lingers, as we seen earlier with the Dashclock page. With the rebase, i have an opportunity to rebuild features, make them morw efficient, effective and faster. At the same time, il be implementing some Oreo features and getting the user base up to speed on the latest and greatest from Google. We may be last of the premium launcher to receive the Oreo implementations but I can promise surprises along the way. This will be months down the road.
Ever since ditching the Sapphyx API, ive wanted to contribute to the android community in some way so that is why GSD Mobile and Drywall 2 will be open sourced. It allows early devs, like myself, see how this was achieved and how it works. Im not gaining anything from it and so its great to ooen source it. If theirs any way to achieve creating another API with Sapphyx Launcher, i want to try and make that happen. I want to try find ways the community can contribute.
Now, this is alot to take in. Alot of changes, alot of expectations, a long time in the road. Please be patient with everything thats going to be happening. Please be patient with the road map.
Feedback is crucial! I understand theirs positive feedback and negative feedback but don't rip my head off. Place yourself in my shoes before submitting what you'll say and see how would you respond. Would you take it positive or negative.
Alrighty folks, Ive got alot of work todo. Il be making changes here soon on GocalSD and GSD Mobile and il be doing some more in depth Vidocs with my new laptop il be getting here soon. We will be able to look projects with more depth and look and see how things are done through my eyes. I may even start doing screen recordings of new updates and projects just to get you guys interested more.
